Yes, we can update an existing resume. However, you will pay the standard price of a similar resume. For example, if you want to update a current private-sector resume, you must select the Standard Resume Package. Therefore, we recommend selecting your desired package to receive a complete rewrite. When you purchase a package, you can attach the old resume for your writer to reference.
At The Resume Factory and Career Coaching Services, LLC, we build a variety of professional resumes. Our resumes are written for the private sector, the federal government, and executive and senior executive service (SES) career pathways.
You can communicate with your writer by emailing us at [email protected]. We will respond to all inquiries no later than 1-business day during regular business hours.
The length of a resume depends on several variables, including work history, sector, e.g., private vs. federal, and career industry. For example, the Standard Resume Package is geared toward private-sector jobs. In contrast, the Federal Resume Package is geared towards federal government jobs and includes additional demographic information, e.g., G.S. step/ grade, that is not included in a standard or private sector resume. Another example is the Executive Resume Package vs. the SES 5-page Resume Package. The Executive Resume Package will be about 2 pages long and focus on capital, portfolio, product growth, etc. The SES 5-page Resume Package will address the U.S. Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) requirement to discuss the experience that meets the ECQs. In addition, many federal agencies suggest a limit of fewer than 5 pages.

According to OPM, they have 5 ECQs. The ECQs define the competencies needed to build a federal corporate culture that drives results, serves customers, and builds successful teams and coalitions within and outside the organization. The ECQs are required for entry into the Senior Executive Service. In addition, many departments and agencies use them in the selection, performance management, and leadership development for management and executive positions. The ECQs were designed to assess executive experience and potential-not technical expertise.

ECQ narratives include one to two examples of relevant experience. The narratives are reviewed by an OPM-administered Qualifications Review Board or QRB, which evaluates the quality and strength of your executive leadership experience (potential if applying to a SESCDP). OPM highly encourages the use of the (C)hallenge, (C)ontext, (A)ction, and (R)esult Model to format the narratives.
The 4 components of the CCAR and the definitions are listed below. In addition, we encourage you to visit the Our Services link and select the Long Story ECQs Package for expert advice and assistance.
- Challenge: Describes a specific problem or goal.
- Context: Describes the individuals and groups you worked with and the environment in which you worked to address a particular challenge (e.g., clients, co-workers, members of Congress, shrinking budget, low morale).
- Action: Discusses the specific actions you took to address a challenge.
- Result: Give specific examples of measures/outcomes that impacted the organization. These accomplishments demonstrate the quality and effectiveness of your leadership skills.
Technical qualifications(TQs), also known as Mandatory Technical Qualifications (MTQs), are often required when submitting an SES application. Unlike ECQs, which evaluate the scope and breadth of leadership experience and potential, TQs or MTQs emphasize the technical skills necessary for a position. Some federal agencies do not require a specific format for writing TQs or MTQs, while others do. However, we leverage the CCAR Model to write these narratives. Each narrative is about 2-pages in length and generally contains two examples.
